An Educator’s Advice on Education

[This book may be purchased as a Kindle book through Amazon or paperback on Amazon or Create Space.]

Ralph Bowman spent 36 years as an educator; 31 years were as a public high school classroom teacher, 22 of those years were as a part-time adjunct professor at a local community college and 5 years in the central office of a public school district as a technology facilitator.  In all of those capacities he gained a great deal of knowledge about how and why things happen in a public school district.

Ralph noticed many building administrators taking for granted that a new teacher in their building already knew a lot of information that the administrator should have told them.  That is the reason that much of the book is information for a teacher who is new to a school district, whether it is their first year out of college or they are relocating after teaching in another district.

There are a lot of problems facing school districts that are not being handled well.  Ralph's mother always told him to not complain about a problem unless he could offer a solution to that problem.  This book attempts to address those problems he witnessed within the public school system and lists his proposals for solving those problems in a way to help improve the profession he so loved.

A student teacher once asked Ralph what did he like least and what did he like best about being an educator.  After careful thought, his replies were, “What I liked least was seeing a very intelligent student throwing away their chance to be whatever they wanted because they were either too lazy or because of romantic involvement.”

“What I liked best was when I would be teaching a new topic and suddenly see the ‘light bulb’ go off in a student’s eyes and I would know that they understood what was being taught.”
