This book is Ralph's first Romance-Adventure book.
Ralph knew in early November, 2017 that he wanted his next book to be set during the Civil War, but was unsure about how it would be developed.
Ralph and his wife always watch Hallmark Christmas movies in November and December and it was while he was in a romantic mood from watching those movies that he decided to make this book about romance during the Civil War and it all fell together.
At first the book had no sex scenes. However, after discussing this book with some women in his senior bowling league they told him that the book needed to be more "saucy". The main problem with that was in using generic terminology that no one would find offensive.
There is a very specific reason that Martin's wife is never referred to by name. That reason is that many large families often have someone marry into the family that the family is not comfortable with and she is to be that character.
